Julia Wolfe's 'Anthracite Fields'

March 13, 2018
Starting: 7:30 PM

The Bang on a Can All-Stars, Choir of Trinity Wall Street, and conductor Julian Wachner bring the multimedia D.C. premiere of American composer Julia Wolfe’s Anthracite Fields, reprising their Grammy®-nominated account of the Pulitzer Prize–winning oratorio in which historic photomontages help recall Pennsylvania’s coal-mining past. The Los Angeles Timescalls Anthracite Fields a "riveting" work "that gives powerful expression to the consequences of labor and the American labor movement."Immediately after the performance, Julia Wolfe will join Mason Bates for a free post-show discussion about the Appalachian experience and the importance of giving a voice to a segment of the population rarely represented in classical music.
