Our Native Daughters featuring Rhiannon Giddens

Rhiannon Giddens, MacArthur Fellow and founding member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, teams up with kindred musicians in both song and sisterhood as Our Native Daughters.

Mar 15, 2021 - Mar 16, 2021. Starting: 08:00 PM

Rhiannon Giddens, MacArthur Fellow and founding member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, teams up with kindred musicians in both song and sisterhood as Our Native Daughters. Songs of Our Native Daughters, the project’s debut album—which Rolling Stone called, “a crucial pronouncement in folk music”—shines new light on African American women’s stories of struggle, resistance, and hope. Drawing from historical sources, Our Native Daughters reimagine our collective past and create new stories for our time. With unflinching, razor-sharp honesty, they confront frequently sanitized views about America’s history of slavery, racism, and misogyny from a powerful, black female perspective.
