The Washington Ballet returns to The Kennedy Center in April for a two week run of the full-length classic Swan Lake. Premiered in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1877 to Tchaikovsky’s dramatic score, the doomed love story of Prince Siegfried and an enchanted “Swan Princess” is recognized as the quintessential classical ballet that demands extraordinary technical skill and compelling dramatic theatricality. Beautiful costume and set design, and additional staging and choreography by Julie Kent and Victor Barbee will provide a thrilling backdrop to reveal the inspiring artistic growth of the Company. With meticulous research and direct reference to the original Petipa choreography based on the Stepanov notation, TWB will present this classic with similar detail and curation as their acclaimed, sold out production of The Sleeping Beauty.
