Admire artwork by Unglik and Playmobile at Sofitel.
Sofitel, Washington, DC, Lafayette Square is honored to premiere the work of French artist Gaëtan de Séguin* through Monday, February 28th in Opaline Bar and Brasserie and Sofitel's Lobby.
Playmobile figurine photography by creative photographer and artist Richard Unglik** has been added to the exhibit.
Gaëtan de Séguin's latest series is a reaction to the terrorist attack on French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo that took place in January 2015, and the marches that took place later that month in Paris and around the world.
Séguin employs three artistic methods: paint on canvas, serigraphy and moucharabieh, a perforated wall composed mostly of geometrical, arabesque motifs, in the form of a screen, to animate his crowds. These anonymous characters, consisting of a multitude of silhouettes almost identical but remain singular, are represented by a unique pattern of markings further illustrates this mosaic of a society, a patchwork of men; each having their own fears, anxieties, but also their hopes and desires in a world that bears multiple aspects. These qualities within the visual work show the individual as much as it offers him the possibility to melt into a much broader and abstract dimension.
Reproducing masterpieces of history with the renowned Playmobile toys has become a passion of creative photographer and artist Richard Unglik. Forming an incredible duo, Unglik and Playmobile are both products of the 70's. with a photography and cinemas background, he imagined a book to tell world history in 2000 illustrated by Playmobil figurines. At the same time, he discovered a new tool of artistic creation, the design and computer aided image. He has also published several books for children with Playmobile illustrations.
All paintings and photographs on display will be available for purchase until February 28, 2022.
