An Evening of Dance Inspired by Winter's Tales
During a time when many enjoy The Nutcracker, Dissonance Dance Theatre presents Winter Stories, an intimate evening of dance inspired by the cold of winter. From tales of longing, family, and determination, Winter Stories brings a theatrical presentation to “everyday feelings” most of us experience in our lives. The event features performances by The Ngoma School and new works by Principal Choreographer Shawn Short, set to the music of Bernard Hermann, Vivaldi, Billie Eilish, Joni Mitchell, Daniel Caesar, and more.
The world premieres include "In The Stillness of Moonlight" (2024), a slow and timeless work set to Bernard Hermann's melodic score, exploring lost and new friendships. "Wanted" (2024), performed to Billie Eilish’s pulsing song, questions relationships with a light-hearted jazz dance style. "Longing Thoughts" (2024) features a solo female dancer reflecting on holiday thoughts with Joni Mitchell’s vocals. "Sunset" (2024) is an allegro pointe work inspired by the harshness of winter, set to Hans Zimmer’s quick and virtuosic composition. Finally, "One Mo’" (2024) is a love-song-turned-love-dance, performed to the soulful voices of Daniel Caesar, Rhyan Douglas, and P.M. Dawn, showcasing Short’s contemporary balletic style. This event is suitable for all ages.
