Governor Gretchen Whitmer

Calling adults of all ages and anyone who wants to make the world a better place

Feb 23, 2025. 5:00 p.m.

Celebrate the release of the young adult adaptation of Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s memoir, True Gretch: Lessons for Anyone Who Wants to Make a Difference. The conversation will primarily be geared toward adults, with young adults welcome to attend.

Gov. Whitmer is a lifelong Michigander who first ran for office at 29, has served in both state houses, and has never lost an election. From navigating a kidnapping and assassination plot in which she was a target to facing monumental challenges during a global pandemic, Big Gretch (as she’s now known) shares the key pieces of wisdom that have shaped her trailblazing career plus personal experiences, from growing up gutsy in the Midwest to neutralizing high-profile bullies with a fearless sense of humor. The YA edition includes a Q&A with her two teenage daughters, resources relating to sexual assault and gun violence, and insights and lessons for young people wishing to make a difference in the world.
