A bold creator, Kyle Abraham represents a fresh, new perspective in todays dance community. Celebrated across the country for his groundbreaking choreography, he won a Bessie Award for Outstanding Performance in Dance in 2010, a MacArthur genius grant in 2013, and his new commission for New York City Ballets annual gala in 2018 garnered widespread critical acclaim. Kennedy Center audiences have seen his company A.I.M (formerly Abraham.In.Motion) perform in our Ballet Across America series, and his choreography has been a perpetual crowd-pleaser on our programs from New York City Ballet and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
For his companys first fully dedicated Kennedy Center engagement, A.I.Ms repertory program offers a rare opportunity to witness Abraham perform INDY, his first new full-length solo in nearly a decade. The visceral choreography in INDY boldly demonstrates that Abrahams skill as a dancer is a fact (The New York Times). Three additional Abraham works fuel this exciting program. Drive is an upbeat creation set to the music of 1990s rap duo Mobb Deep and DJ Theo Parrish. The Quiet Dance comes from the Bill Evans interpretation of Leonard Bernsteins Some Other Time. And Meditation: A Silent Prayer explores police brutality and its social impact.
