Unleashing Ancient Forces: Steve Yockey's Dark Comedy Sleeping Giant Premieres This Fall
A new play, Sleeping Giant by Emmy-nominated Steve Yockey and directed by Jenny McConnell Frederick. This darkly comic and sometimes startling play begins with a firework-filled marriage proposal gone wrong, awakening something ancient that has been sleeping in a nearby lake for thousands of years. What follows is a series of intimate vignettes that explore the lengths people will go to when they desperately want to believe in something.
Written by Steve Yockey, known for his work on Rorschach shows *Very Still and Hard to See* and *Reykjavik*, as well as his roles as creator of the HBO series *The Flight Attendant* and Netflix's *Dead Boy Detectives*, *Sleeping Giant* promises to be an unforgettable theatrical experience.
The play features performances by Robert Bowen Smith, Erin Denman, Sydney Dionne, and Jacob Yeh, with understudies Semaj Kelly, Tiana Lockhart, Sarah Millard, and Taylor Stevens. The creative team includes Sarah Beth Hall (Set Design), Ashlynne Ludwig (Costume Design), Dean Leong (Lighting Design), Thomas Woodard (Sound Design), Aoife Creighton (Props Design), and Kylos Brannon (Video Design). The production is stage-managed by Leica Long, with Natasha Sánchez as Assistant Stage Manager, Madelyn Southard as Technical Director, Daelyn Funk as Master Electrician, and Germar Townsend as Production Manager.
Produced by Randy Baker and Jenny McConnell Frederick, this project is brought to life in partnership with Lerner Enterprises and The Golden Triangle BID, with additional support from the DC Commission for the Arts and Humanities.
